How to Set Up IPTV on Amazon Firestick in 5 Minutes (2026)

Set up IPTV on a Firestick in about five minutes.

To set up IPTV on a Firestick: install a player app such as IPTV Smarters Pro or TiviMate, open it, choose "Login with Xtream Codes API", and type in the server URL, username and password from your activation email. If the player is not in the Amazon Appstore, turn on Developer options, allow the Downloader app to install unknown apps, and download the player from the developer's official website. The whole process takes about five minutes.

Before you start

You need three things:

  • A Fire TV device plugged into your TV and connected to the internet. The Fire TV Stick 4K Max is the smoothest; very old models struggle with large channel guides.
  • Your login details. After you choose a plan we email an Xtream Codes API login (server URL, username, password) and an M3U playlist link.
  • A stable connection. About 15 Mbps per Full HD stream and 30 Mbps per 4K stream. You can check yours with the CIRA Internet Performance Test or our own IPTV speed test.

Which Fire TV models work best for IPTV

Every current Fire TV device can play IPTV, but they are not equal with a guide of thousands of channels.

  • Fire TV Stick 4K Max: the best choice for most homes. It has the most memory of the sticks, a fast processor and modern Wi-Fi.
  • Fire TV Cube: the fastest Fire TV and the only one with a built-in Ethernet port. Worth it for a main living room TV.
  • Fire TV Stick 4K: fine for one TV, a little slower when scrolling a large guide.
  • Fire TV Stick Lite and older models: they work, but expect slower channel changes. Hide channel groups you never watch to help.

If you are choosing between a Firestick and another device, our IPTV device comparison covers the alternatives.

Step 1: Check the Amazon Appstore first

From the Fire TV home screen, go to Find, then Search, and type the name of your player. Availability in the Canadian Appstore changes, so check here first: an Appstore install updates itself and needs no extra settings. If you find it, install it and skip to Step 4.

Step 2: Turn on Developer options

On current Fire TV software, Developer options stay hidden until you reveal them:

  1. Open Settings, then My Fire TV, then About.
  2. Select your device name (for example "Fire TV Stick") seven times. A message confirms you are now a developer.
  3. Go back one screen. Developer options now appears in the My Fire TV menu.

This does not void anything or change how your Firestick works day to day. It only reveals extra settings.

Step 3: Install Downloader and get the player

  1. Search the Appstore for Downloader (by AFTVnews) and install it.
  2. Open Settings > My Fire TV > Developer options > Install unknown apps and switch Downloader on.
  3. Open Downloader and enter the download address published on the player developer's official website.
  4. Install the file when prompted, then delete the installer to free up storage.

Only download players from their developer's own site. The Government of Canada's Get Cyber Safe guidance applies here: unknown files from unknown sources are how devices get compromised.

Step 4: Log in with Xtream Codes API

Open the player and choose the Xtream Codes option. In IPTV Smarters Pro it is Add user > Login with Xtream Codes API; in TiviMate it is Add playlist > Xtream Codes. Then enter:

  • Name: anything you like, for example "Digital IPTV".
  • Username and password: exactly as in your email. They are case-sensitive.
  • Server URL: the full address including http:// and the port number.

Xtream Codes is better than the M3U link on a Firestick because the app loads channels, the guide, catch-up and on-demand titles automatically. Our IPTV Smarters Pro guide and TiviMate guide cover each app screen by screen.

Step 5: Load the guide and set favourites

The first load takes a minute while the app downloads the channel list and programme guide. Once it finishes, hide channel groups you never watch and add favourites for quick zapping. If the guide is empty, open the app's settings and refresh the EPG.

Fire TV settings that help IPTV

A few system settings make a noticeable difference:

  • Display: in Settings > Display & Sounds > Display, leave video resolution on Auto and turn on Match Original Frame Rate if your model offers it. Sports look smoother.
  • Featured content: in Settings > Preferences > Featured Content, turn off video and audio autoplay. Trailers on the home screen use bandwidth and memory.
  • Updates: in Settings > My Fire TV > About, check for system updates every month or two.
  • Data monitoring: if your internet plan has a cap, Settings > Preferences > Data Monitoring shows how much the Firestick uses.

How to stop buffering on a Firestick

Most freezing on a Firestick comes from the connection, not the service. Work through these in order:

  1. Test your speed on the TV's own network, not your phone's.
  2. Restart the Firestick from Settings > My Fire TV > Restart. It clears memory that builds up after days of use.
  3. Clear the player's cache from Settings > Applications > Manage installed applications.
  4. Raise the buffer size in the player's playback settings.
  5. Go wired with an Ethernet adapter, or move the router or a mesh point closer to the TV.

If a single channel freezes while others play fine, email us the channel name and the time and we will check that stream.

Everyday tips once it is set up

  • Put the player on the home screen. Hold the Home button, choose Apps, highlight the player and move it to the front row.
  • Restart once a week. Fire TV devices are rarely switched off, and a weekly restart keeps memory clear.
  • Use catch-up for late games. On channels with catch-up, scroll back in the guide and start a programme from the beginning.
  • Keep your login safe. Write it down somewhere other than the Firestick; you will need it if you ever reset the device.

If you have kids in the house, set up a PIN before they find the remote. Our parental controls guide covers Fire TV and the player apps.

Common error messages and what they mean

  • "App not installed": usually not enough free storage, or an older copy of the same app is already installed. Free up space or uninstall the old version, then try again.
  • "There was a problem parsing the package": the file did not finish downloading or was built for a different device. Download it again from the developer's official site.
  • "Unable to connect to server": check the server URL, including http:// and the port, and confirm your Firestick is online by opening any other app.
  • The app opens, then closes: clear its cache and data in Settings > Applications > Manage installed applications, restart, and log in again.
  • "Insufficient storage" warnings: delete installer files in Downloader and uninstall apps you no longer use.

If an error is not on this list, email us a photo of the screen. It is usually a one-line fix.

Using IPTV with the Fire TV remote

The Fire TV remote has no number keys, so channel lists matter more than on a cable box. Keep a short favourites group, use the player's search for anything else, and use the Alexa button to open the player by name. If you miss number keys, an inexpensive Bluetooth remote with a number pad pairs with any Fire TV in Settings > Controllers and Bluetooth Devices.

If you reset or replace your Firestick

A factory reset removes every app and login. Before you reset, make sure you have your activation email with the server URL, username and password. After the reset, repeat Steps 2 to 4: reveal Developer options, install Downloader if needed, and log in to your player again. Moving to a new Firestick is the same process; your subscription is tied to your login, not to the device.

When a Firestick is not the right choice

Older or entry-level Fire TV models with little memory can feel slow with a guide of thousands of channels. If you use IPTV as your main TV service, or you want TiviMate's multi-view, an Android TV box with Ethernet is worth the extra money. Our device comparison explains the options.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to allow unknown apps on a Firestick?

It is safe if you only install apps from their developer's official website. Turn the setting off again for Downloader once your player is installed.

Why can't I find Developer options on my Firestick?

Newer Fire TV software hides them. Go to Settings, My Fire TV, About, and select your device name seven times to reveal them.

Can I use TiviMate on a Firestick?

Yes. Fire TV is built on Android, so TiviMate runs on it. If it is not in the Appstore, install it with Downloader.

Should I use the M3U link or Xtream Codes on Firestick?

Use Xtream Codes when the app supports it. It loads the guide, catch-up and on-demand titles automatically; the M3U link is a backup for players that only accept playlists.

Why does my Firestick say storage is low?

Player apps cache the guide and channel logos. Delete installer files from Downloader, uninstall apps you do not use and clear the player's cache.
